Wearing a pair of pearl-covered Tasaki x ASICS GT-2160s could cost you nearly $30,000.

High-end jeweler Tasaki from Japan is well-known for its exquisite pearl and diamond designs. Now, the company is pushing the boundaries of the former by teaming up with ASICS to create a pair of pearl-encrusted GT-2160 sneakers. As opposed to typical shoe partnerships, which result in a collection of standard models being manufactured, every Tasaki x ASICS GT-2160 pair is made separately. The most elaborately designed versions in the collection sell for about $30,000 USD, so they are not inexpensive either.

The collection’s GT-2160 colorway is a breezy combination of tan, white, and cream tones, with a few silver accents and (appropriately) iridescent finishes to add flare. Tasaki’s pearls are, of course, the true stars of the show. These are known as Akoya pearls, which are rarer and smoother than freshwater pearls and are distinguished by their very glossy luster. The most expensive versions in the collection, are arranged in a web resembling crochet across the upper of the shoe, draped like necklaces over the side, or piled on top of the laces. On the less expensive versions, they function as lace debris with subtle gold accents.

On April 26, Tasaki’s FLOATING SHELL exhibition in Tokyo is expected to host the formal unveiling of the Tasaki x ASICS GT-2160 line. The price range is from ¥4,411,000 (just over $29,000 USD) to ¥165,000 JPY (just under $1,100 USD).
